What lead me to this career...
Here is a little info about me, Leonardo Arce (which by the way is the LEAR in LEAR Web Design - the first 2 letters of my first name and the first 2 letters of my last name). Just like people say that certain boxers are the best boxers for their weight class......."Pound for pound whoever is the best boxer in the world"......well, you can kind of describe me that way, but in regards to the Web Design & Development field. For the low amount of money I charge, my clients come out with heavy duty sites that can rival just about any site that any other developer puts out. By "Low" I don't mean dirt cheap, but it's on the lower end of competitive rates. Some may go as far as to say that "Buck for buck, Leo Arce is one of the best Web Developers of all time".
Now on to my history (concerning my career)......Throughout most of my schooling, from elementary school through high school and college as well I have had Computer and Art classes. There were 3 things that I wanted to do with my life after High School. I wanted to be a Commercial Artist, Computer Technician, or Computer Programmer.
At the end of High School I rejected Artist, due to the fact that they don't make as much money as computer professionals (or at least that what I thought at the time), and I narrowed it down to 2 fields. After I graduated High School I went to a Vocational/Technical School for "Computer Electronics" (Computer Repair). I graduated that course but did not get a job in that field. After a while of looking for a Computer Technician job, I took a break. After the break I joined the military.
I was recruited into the United States Marine Corps (USMC) by a Sgt. Smith who was in a Mall that I was cruising one day. There were a few reasons why I joined, but the main one was to get government funding for school, however, I did not go to school while I was in the Corps, due to the fact that military personnel move from state to state very often. What I did was to wait until I got out of the Marine Corps, so that I can use the Montgomery G.I. Bill money for educational purposes. My main occupation in the Corps was accounting, however, I did a little of everything. My first year in the Marines was training on the basics of being a Marine and the basics of accounting. The other 3 years, I was doing the accounting occupation.
During my off time during these 3 years is when I developed an interest in web design and development. I learned HTML on my own. I dabbled in JavaScript, CGI, Perl, DHTML and Java. After I got out of the U.S.M.C. in December of 2000 I began looking for a school that had the program I wanted. In January of 2001 I found the perfect school. The school that I found was "The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale", but the quarter had already started, so I had to wait until the next quarter, which was April 02, 2001.
While at this school I learned the more advanced web development techniques, but even after I graduated I have continued to learn as much as I can. Almost every week I learn new techniques and strategies about Web Design and Development. If you are in need of a new web site or a redesign to an existing web site, send me an email and ask me to create you an excellent personal or business online presence.
